'Two Bardstown Road Buildings For Sale' is not a civic contribution or an enterprise related article. In the article, it talked about how 115 year old building are now for sale on Bardstown Road for commercial use.
The article explained that the two buildings for sale are between 10,000 and 30,000 square feet and how they are now being used to store MetroSafe communications equipment. The article also mentioned that the homes will be auctioned to commercial buyers and then put into use for whatever the buyers needs are.
I thought that this article was only reaching out to commercial home buyers. Why would I need this in the long run? I do not have millions to spend on an old creaky house. Why report on this when we are having an election in a matter of days?
The reporter of the article also never reached out to any commercial buyers and how this would affect them in the long run or what they would do with the property. This would have made the article more interesting, made it important, and made more people possibly get involved.
Overall, the article was only reaching out to a certain audience and is not newsworthy.

Courier Journal article Critique
The article 'Chick-Fil-A Planned on Bardstown Near Costco' is neither relevant nor newsworthy.
I found the article while scrolling through local news because I am in the courier news group. When I clicked to see the rest of the article, I was surprised that this type of article is in the news. This article has many problems, one being that it is only one sided. The article never reaches out to the audience or the consumers of Chick-Fil-A. The only opinions presented are those of the design crews who came up with the design and location of the new restaurant. The article is only informing readers about the new restaurant. After reading, I felt uninformed. Why a new Chick-Fil-A? Why there? What are the estimated sales going to be? There was also a part in the article talking about a nearby movie theatre and I thought that that was going off topic so I was very confused by that.
This article had no real purpose besides to tell consumers about a new restaurant on Bardstown Road by the Costco. It is not newsworthy because it does not explain, or visit both sides of the story.

Television
Today we finished our lecture about television. I think that the mass mediums are a very interesting and broad topic and learning about ones that are in your home are especially interesting.
I really liked the part from the lecture about how they would advertise how certain movies, movie theaters, and tv sets would have color by putting that at the beginning of the show. It made me think about all the old movies and how they show 'colors provided by technicolor' at the beginning. Then I remembered The Wizard of Oz and how amazing it would have been to see that when it first came out because it was the first movie with color.
I also really enjoy talking about the business side and the impacts of mass mediums because a lot of people don't really think about that when they sit down to watch tv or go see a movie. I thought that it was crazy to hear that the average amount of hours watched was seven per day. One impact of tv that really seems relevant and like it is still heavy today is the political advertisements. Since local, and national elections are coming up, it makes sense to broadcast lots of ads about candidates and their platforms. I feel that their are always local elections going on so we always see political ads on tv.

Radio
In the beginning, radio was used for advertising. Broadcast was all live and was group communication because not everyone could afford a radio. I thought that the history of radio was very interesting. I never knew that radio was used for church, and a mass form of advertising. Now, radio is mainly advertising and I never connected the old radio with the new radio.
During the lecture, Miller told us that KDKA was the oldest radio station and that it still exists today. I immediately wanted to hear what their radio station sounded like and how they broadcasted music, news, and advertisements. To my surprise, KDKA was mostly local traffic updates, news, and weather. I was disappointed because, to me, radio is music and blocks of weather and traffic updates, not multiple blocks of traffic and weather.
Response to "Newspapers" by E. Streeter
I enjoyed reading E.'s response to the newspaper lecture. I agree with what they said about the media of a newspaper seeming very American. Yes, other countries have newspapers that are successful and even better produced than some of those in America. But, newspapers are a very American thing. Every one knows that the perfect idea of an American family is, a boy riding a bike, and throwing the daily paper on the lawn. Mom is making breakfast and Dad is reading the paper in his robe. The newspaper is like hamburgers, American, but made everywhere in the world.
I also really enjoyed what they said about how newspapers have unified the colonies. I think that by having national and international news sources, we are able to stay connected with the world and learn and, in a way, experience other cultures.

Movies
The way that our world has technologically advanced, completely blows my mind. In class, we always start out by talking about the history. I really like how we do this because it allows me to think about all the people who got to experience these things develop around them. My parents and grandparents always tell stories about how they would sit in the living room and listen to a baseball game, news, or weather. Now, our generation can pull out a hand held device and search the web virtually anywhere.
Personally, I am very interested in the film industry, so learning about the impacts, the history, and the importance of movies today was very intriguing. I had always thought that the beginning of movies began with the start of the twentieth century. When Miller first started discussing movies, he started telling us about moving pictures with sound. I remember watching old movies with my grandparents in black and white. This is what really got me interested in film. I also remember watching old movies with Charlie Chaplin running around faster than he should be.
I never knew that some silent movies sometimes had a live band that would play music to keep the person rolling the film on track. I though that that was very innovative and helped people keep on track.
Since I am looking into a profession that might involve cinematography, film, and directing, talking about the importance of movies made me feel like I had a secret advantage to the industry. Film producers try to make the audience feel like they are fully part of the experience. They incorporate emotion and make movies a big production to get the audience involved. I like to feel like I am a part of the movie and I want to make other people feel like that by creating movies.

Courier Journal Response
The past few weeks we have been analyzing news sources and tallying up how many local, national, and international stories there are. We also tally what each article is about. I am in the Courier Journal group.
I have noticed that a lot of the Courier Journal stories are about local events. There is a lot of coverage of things about social issues in education. There is also a number of national stories about health or things about crime or sports. The international news follows the conflicts in the Middle East which a lot of other news sources are covering.
I also noticed that there is not a lot of political coverage. Yes, there are a few articles about who is running and polls about who would vote for which president if they had to vote tomorrow, but it does not go into detail. I think that there should be more coverage of the upcoming election here in Kentucky that will be happening in early November, or the presidential election next year.
I think that the Courier Journal is newsworthy, but thy are not covering all of the news stories that they could be to make them more successful.
